1. Exoplanets

The planets that orbit the stars other than the Sun outside our Solar System are known as Exoplanets. Before the discovery of these planets, people used to believe that only our Solar System consisted of the planets orbiting around the sun. Although people in past were not aware of the exact distance of the stars from the Earth and their chemical composition, they understood the correlation between the stars and the direction very well. Although there are compounds other than water that may also form ice, the scientists think that such components may be conducive to sustaining life. In their opinion, some life forms may also lie dormant in the ice till the right environmental conditions prevail for them to proliferate.

Furthermore, they can also predict how long an expedition would actually take place to happen in space. Due to this discovery, the scientists are actually able to express large distances in much smaller numbers.
